Considering Owning A Timeshare? Off The Beaten Track Beach Getaways

There’s nothing like sun, surf, and fresh ocean air to set the scene for a relaxing vacation.  In fact, here in the US, we’re blessed with 95,471 miles of coastline according to the National Ocean Service website. So picking a destination for your next beach getaway or owning a timeshare may not be as easy as it sounds.

For this installment, we thought we’d take a look at some of the more overlooked and possibly unusual timeshare destinations – sure, Hawaii, Orlando, and San Diego are awesome and have a ton of great options (which we may tackle later.) But there are some great, less traditional, options out there as well, and we thought we’d take a peek at three of our favorites.

First up, a majestic destination in the state of California:

Hyatt Carmel Highlands

Wow. Just wow. The views alone from this luxury resort are breathtaking. In their own words, Perched on a hillside in the Carmel Highlands with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, Highlands Inn combines true Carmel luxury with an approachable and sophisticated spirit.”  And there’s a lot to do here – hiking, horseback riding, scuba diving, sailing, and kayaking are all on the menu- or just hang out in the spa and relax.  To top it off, Monterey Bay is a relatively short drive up the awe-inspiring Pacific Coast Highway, where the Monterey Bay Aquarium awaits.  (Oh yeah, Carmel also has a little golf course or two if that’s your thing…)

The only real downside is that it’s on the Pacific… and that means the water is a bit on the chilly side.  If you’re scuba diving with your wetsuit, probably not an issue, but if you want to lay out and take a dip in the ocean to cool off, it might be a bit cooler than some prefer.

If warmer climates are your preference, here’s another classic on the other side of the lower 48…

The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa

Located on the Gulf Coast side of Florida, this resort lives up to the “Regency” part of its name nicely. From amazing views, world-class dining and a fantastic spa to an amazing water slide/pool area, it’s a gem with a lot to offer the whole family.  In fact, in their own words, here’s a little more about the water features on the property:  “The largest resort poolscape in Southwest Florida, enjoy three acres water attractions including a meandering Lazy River, five waterslides including a pair of dueling speed waterslides an inner tube waterslide (48” height requirements), the Corkscrew waterslide (42” height requirement) and the Ciquala waterslide for little ones.”

They also offer excursions into the Everglades and deep sea fishing opportunities – never a dull moment, and the water is definitely warm, so running along the beach in swim attire is almost a must for any vacationer here.

On to our final pick (at least for this post):

The Sea Mist Resort Hotel

Yep, the Sea Mist. In Maine.

“Beach resort in Maine???”, you’re saying right about now. Yep, beach resort in Maine.  Along with some breathtaking coastline, this resort boasts an indoor pool (we mentioned this was in Maine, right? It gets cold there in the winter.)

While you may not want to spend a lot of time IN the water, there are some great activities that involve being ON the water here. Where else could you go on a “lobstah” boat tour (and eat some of the best, freshest lobster anywhere)? Or go birdwatching at Laudholm Farm? There are a number of great golf courses in the area, and plenty of great shopping opportunities, along with whale watching and fishing.  Not necessarily the first place most people would think of – but that’s the point of this post.

And if you really like these locations, you have the option to become a timeshare owner at each one.  Many people enjoy the benefits of timeshare ownership and find it a great option for their vacations.

If you’re already a timeshare owner, you may have other feelings, and might even be thinking about what your options are in the long term.  Many times, timeshares fit the bill at a given point in time, but things change- the kids grow up, financial situations shift, or you may even just find yourself ready for a change of scenery.  If you’re in this camp, it may be time to begin exploring your options, up to and including the cancellation of your timeshare agreement.

There are companies in business that help timeshare owners get out of their contracts and start fresh with their vacation plans. While there are a number of great choices out there, the best firm in the business is the original timeshare cancellation company, Timeshare Legal.
